Project Description

Below explains what this project is all about.

In order to move natural gas from southern Nigeria to central Nigeria, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) is building a 614km-long pipeline. It is being built as part of Nigeria's Gas Master Plan at a cost of $2.8 billion to make use of the nation's excess gas resources for both domestic consumer use and power generation. It will be constructed using the build-own-operate-transfer (BOOT) method as part of a public-private partnership (PPP) under the direction of Nigeria's Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission (ICRC). China will fund 85% of the project with loans, and Nigeria would provide 15% equity. There are four sections to the AKK pipeline project. The first leg will cover over 200 kilometres from Ajaokuta to Abuja in the Federal Capital Territory. The second section of the pipeline will cover a distance of 193 kilometres (km) from the Abuja TGS to the Kaduna TGS, the third section will cover a distance of 97 kilometres (km) from Kaduna to Zaria, and the fourth and last section will cover a distance of about 124 kilometres (km) from Zaria to the Kano TGS.
